Get to know us
The Gardner family bakery was established 1910.
Originally focused on bread, rolls and traditional bakes, our ancestors opened Gardners Bakery on the Harborough road in Northampton in May 1910 by James & Agnes Gardner.
Their son, Joe Gardner (pictured left), introduced Wedding cakes when he joined the company to expand our offerings.
Carrying on the legacy
Expanding the team
In 1963, Joe's Son Roger and his wife, Marylyn Gardner joined the team. They introduced takeaway treats, birthday cakes, pasties and savouries.
Originally called J. Gardner / J. Gardner & Son.
In 1980s, their daughter Helen Gardner joined the team. Together with Joe, they expanded their range of Wedding cakes.

passing it down
In 2000s, we changed our name to Gardners Bakery.
A few years after the sudden passing of Roger Gardner, Marylyn retired and passed the business on to her daughter, Helen.
Marylyn helpee carry on the Gardner legacy for over 50 years.
Mainly focusing on celebration cakes, wedding cakes and takeaway treats, and a few new shop refits, we celebrated our 100th anniversary in 2010.
Gardners Cookies was born
After receiving lots of requests from those that moved out of town, and on the hunt for the next 'big' thing.. In 2018, we branched into postal cookies and Gardners Cookies was born. To date, hundreds of thousands of cookies have left our bakery doors and been shipped across the UK.
Same tradition methods (plus a couple of rollers and ovens), same family recipe, same family business spirit.
